Monthly Archives: October 2008

I had a bit of an accident last week. I got hit from left side by a motorist who was running away from police. The car was totaled and I am fine.(Hospital visit was required but I did not have a scratch, not even the airbag bruise. But I was shaken a bit. I am very happy that my parents paid for that expensive car. If I was in my Prius, it could have been worse. So I am getting another Lexus as my replacement.

Yes I have been away again! Been a bit busy with campus in full swing, “G” is demanding some stuff and the Lab invitingly has new projects. I at least put in 10-12 hours. Even Miss Fukuoka is crossed and I did not see my Mom last week! Hope to cut some breaks this week.

Yet I just voted at Cernos and congratulated him on getting 100000 hits while agreeing with RD about Dinidu not becoming an activist. Did not forget to celebrate the launching of Chandrayaan 1 with Indyana. Darwin has a nice post about Hydra, and reminded me that we have not been to Mediterranean area in a while.

If you have time help Ian and his band of brothers with a vote, I already did.

I told the same dinidu the activist, from above, that I like simulator games, driving flying etc. Hey Lady D, have drink, take nap and go for a drive. You will feel better soon.

For the first time I left a comment on a politically site, dare to be different!. It is affiliated to a party that my grand father cherished. That is a lot of water, that he posted about.

Then I went looking for my favorite Noorie only to find that she has a manic laughter, specially after a sweet Sunday!

As usual The drummer opened the SL blog sphere for me by reminding me how Kottu was not working and yes it did not work but began to spew out post including one about erotic kottu. I have no idea how spicy food could be erotic! yet took his word for it and followed Dinidu’s links only to find, I could not read them!  But Cerno reminded me of those clubs in Colombo. I loved walking to Otter’s club to swim from one of my relatives place. When ever we were in Sl,  I always got dragged in to Colombo golf club where I demonstrated my inability to hit a golfball!. But I loved being at the Nuwara Elya Golf club. Where me and my mother always look at the mountains, wondering which one to climb. It is so nice and much cooler than Colombo. But those snotty people would not let me have dinner in my shorts and tees. So I go and by one size small diner jacket making people spray what ever they were drinking in to small clouds in front  of them. Mind you we were staying at the club not just coming for dinner. It was fun neverhteless. I like blue elephant to go and shake out booties at night! Thanks Cerno, for the memories. But there is a Colombo club here in Oakland, never been there. The trigonometric dancer went roller coasting and to tell the truth, I love the rush. Sky diving gives even better rush! Then I had to read a post by Missing Sandwich about a sad story of a boy being killed because he was gay! It really unnerves you to know that there are people who are capable of such crimes. But is is sobering to see the flora, fauna and insecta around GallicIssa’s house. I think Birds and insects got the word out that he is a good photographer. But lately Java has been traveling though multi dimensions and talking about black holes mayas and String theory. I almost always have mental orgasms to dwell in the subject. It is good to wrangle my mind with these thoughts but sometime I wonder, as I told RD about making money! But there is nothing to worry about. I spoke to my grand father in Austria and he told me how I could be a teacher and still make money, like he did. So I will a teacher, I guess. In any case there have to a poor one to get the wealth all these people have built. Lastly Naz is inviting all of you to see Kaffirs at barefoot. My Mom gave me a whole bunch of Barefoot Linen for my new house. Wonder where she got them as we did not go to SL in a long time.

Once you make a commitment, you have to upkeep the responsibilities, how ever tiny they are. Once you start blogging and grab a corners of various peoples hearts and minds, one can not just drop out and run away.

I did that and I feel guilty as I should. I know RD, my favorite drummer who also is also an expert on making other noises related skin and air,  was wondering what happened. Lady D, another of my favorite Ladies left a comment wondering where I was. I know there are many others who did. But even two are too much. I have a habit of getting on multiple single tracks (work only) when I am busy and forget people.

Even Miss Fukuoka and my Mom complained about the last week. Well so Here I am, my lunch break, instead of reading “Anathem” while I consume this lunch, (leftover penne with sun dried tomato pesto, Yum 🙂  which my Mom made and Miss Fukuoka delivered.

The Drummer wrote a lot as others in my circle. But you have to read the RD’s assessment of SL Blogs, which he does time to time. But Cerno on the other hand, vomiting articles. I am only capable of making other people vomit, when they read my papers!

Talking about papers, it is Nobel Prize time and some one from Miss Fukuoka family (distant) got one for Physics. Since we have met before and I made him laugh hysterically with my Japanese conversational skills. Our family has been invited, unofficially, verbally for the party! (in Japan, not the one in Stockholm) in December. I was planing to avoid going to Japan this year but now I have to!

for the discovery of the origin of the broken symmetry which predicts the existence of at least three families of quarks in nature”

As I told the drummer, I am really in a jam about my carrier. I was an academic and did not really know how the corporate world operated. I knew they made a lot of money ( Yes I helped to spend the most of what my father made 😉 but I was surprised to learn how much one can make out there.

As an academic, if I keep my post for next three years, I would then will barely make $100,000.00. But that is little even tiny compared to what is on the table out there.

Even though it is hard to get a Prius these days, I have one and it is not plug in type. I am going to get the modification done at A123Systems. (Yes sports cars are a myth, I am doing same or better with Prius than my V8 equipped Lexus, as now I get to ride on car pool lane, yes again, I managed to get a sticker that allows one to travell on car pool lanes as well!) But don’t try to burn rubber at red lights!

Anyway I am at cross roads and I also know you can not easily return once you enter the corporate world. I know some friends who did and they forgot even where the university was. Money is cool but are they as cool as those pot infused breezes on campus grounds? Will those corners of the world I love to travel will be too far?  Is Royal Society too poor? There are a lot of questions.

I already know I will not be in London this fall (autumn) and perhaps next spring as The Royal Society is a very important institute to me! (even I might get a chance to see RD! 🙂

Anyways, I read about Java’s blackhole theory and the most complex simplistic theory we use when people question us about string theory. But to hear that Jones had to face environmental tragedy among other tradegies in SL makes you feel lost.

But it is good to see Lady D laughing and enjoying the company of friends! and the long list of Friday tasks of GF made mine look tiny (but heavy stuff). But I had a laugh when I read about Dawin Award’s lost bottle of Mustard!

Lastly it was fun to read Scrumps beaing beutiful! and Naz brought me down to the reality, yes it hurts! Just like the bird on a wire , having to worry what next?
